You and I need to talk about this incredible band from Houston Texas, they are known as Coldwards and they have just released a killer heavy melodic track titled ‘Bad News’, and I am addicted.

Bad News starts out in an almost sci-fi way, leading into a djenty (is that a word?) aggressively cinematic soundscape, and if I am to be completely honest with you, I replayed the opening about five times or more before continuing further into the song, what can I say? I just dig the hell out of that opening.

Coldwards is a tight band, the production is meticulous, so hat’s off to those involved with mastering this track to crisp levels without muddying up the sound in pursuit of such a large sound. Bad News is a single that showcases how the many parts of this inspiring band come together to create something truly emotional and captivating. I never once felt that any part of the song overshadowed another, and when I listen to each part, I can still dissect it cleanly from the rest, and that is a beautiful thing to witness.

I am surprised that I took this long to say this, but better late than never; the vocals on this track are so well done, and in many ways, I can compare them to Bad Omens or Motionless in White, and possibly closer to a band I love called Ghost Atlas. Sean Crosby and Zac Crosby just get how to create a vocal line that just grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go. The melodic vocals met with the growling screams make for a dramatic dynamic that leaves an impact.

That same intensity is brought by the rest of the band who play as if this is their last song. I mean the energy is so high on this song that it’s being added immediately to my workout playlist.

Richie Hey on Bass and Michael Friese on Guitar are playing off each other so aggressively and tightly that you can easily find yourself listening to just their parts and getting emotional about it. Well done, well done indeed.

I could talk about this song quite a bit longer, but I know this generation doesn’t really have the time to read a few pages, so I am going to say It straight; go listen to this song right now, follow this band right now, and let them know how much you like their latest single, Bad News…because I feel confident you will enjoy it.
