When North Carolina’s, new music outlaw, Michael Raven hit the scene with his party-ready single ‘Bends It Like A Guitar String’ it was clear to me that here was an artist to pay close attention to. Country Rock has been growing steadily in popularity thanks to not only the industry heavy hitters but also because of fresh indie artists such as Michael Raven, who carry the torch forth into exciting new times for the genre.
Looking at the numbers that followed Bends It Like A Guitar String, I am happy to see that my prediction for Michael’s success was indeed correct, and my updated prediction for his undeniable future success further comes from the confidence from hearing his latest addictive single ‘Lock Me Up (And Throw Away The Whiskey). This song captures the essence of Michael’s ability as both a songwriter and strong vocalist, and a shoutout to Stacy Hogan of A Writer’s Paradise Studios in Nashville, for producing, mixing and mastering this song into existence. It really does have that high level of professional shine that we have come to expect from the Nashville music scene.,
Lock Me Up (And Throw Away The Whiskey) is a true country rock ballad with a chorus that is guaranteed to get stuck in your head. It is a story-driven, heartfelt single that many of us can relate to, which in my opinion, is what makes for the greatest music. Lock Me Up (And Throw Away The Whiskey) feels as if it has a much deeper meaning for the artist than his previous single, which felt more like it was meant to be fun and much less serious in its nature. Lock Me Up (And Throw Away The Whiskey) is a diary entry from an artist who wants to go deeper into his soul to shine a light on his inner-demons and challenge them by exposing their existence.
Michael Raven is a mystery to me at this point. He came out of nowhere with what became a hit single and followed up with what is going to reach even higher heights for the artist. I have no idea if he is working on an EP or an album, but whatever it is, I am here for it. This man has what it takes to play alongside the best of them, and for that reason I am going to be paying close attention to what he does. Don’t sleep on this one.
