For any artist, it takes a lot of courage to dig deep emotionally, and to surrender both that darkness and vulnerability to the opinionated world freely; and for North Hollywood’s own Damyon, this right-of-artistic-passage seems to flow naturally through their poignant new EP titled “We’re All Dogs”.
Made up of five raw and beautifully constructed Alt-Rock tracks, “We’re All Dogs” bravely chooses to walk the honest path.

Opening with the stripped down and haunting track titled Again, Damyon invites the listener into a melancholy-drenched headspace, where the full emotional force of the song can be found in the brooding details of the instruments played. Again, very much feels like it might fall apart at any moment; as if it is holding itself together by sheer will alone.
For it’s very cinematic approach, Again, is featured in the new Documentary “The Dogs of Dowdy Ferry”, and there is no wonder why any director would choose to have this song on their project; as it is a true mini-epic.
The next track titled Crazy doesn’t pull any emotional punches either, and by now any listener will appreciate this sincere approach to Damyon’s authentic approach to songwriting.
Crazy is a song about separation. It deals with the all-to-real-world experience of being forced to act as a weekend father, while living with a full-time desire to see the children that you miss so much.
Where Again felt as if the song might fall apart, Crazy feels as though the singer might. It is a brilliant polarity of emotions, and a true underdog story at its core.

Not one to hang out in the dark waters for too long, Damyon follows up the intense and heavy Crazy with a much happier and more upbeat track titled Do It Or Don’t.
Do It Or Don’t finds itself out on the open road, or on a train heading to an unknown destination. It is a love letter to throwing caution to the wind, and to seeing where the next step towards somewhere new will inevitably take you. It is both refreshing and inspirational, and comes perfectly placed within the center of the EP.

The current lead single on “We’re All Dogs” EP is the 90’s inspired grunge-rock track Get behind Me. Adding more layers of sound than found in previous tracks on the EP, “Get Behind Me” feels like it is dripping with intention, and very much a call for help, or a call for action; only Damyon knows for sure. I expect that this song will resonate with many listeners for it’s catchy guitar riff, it’s almost cynical approach to the vocals, and the intentional lyrics. As far as singles go, this is a great choice, and a great way to introduce listeners to the band.

LISTEN TO “GET BEHIND ME” HERE!

The final track on this interesting, unique, and gritty sounding EP is also the most elevated track on the album. Come By Again feels as much as single as Get Behind Me, and will no doubt become the bands next single to focus on. It is quite the juxtaposition from the more subdued and stripped down opening track Again. Where Again chose to stay quiet, moody, and intimate; Come By Again opens up in a loud and sonically impressive way, and came quite close to feeling like it was meant for another album altogether.
I am sure that Damyon built the EP to start out one way and end exactly like this. A great track and one that would no doubt shine in a live setting.

All in all, what Damyon has created here is a smart and honest EP for the “Thinkers” and more so for the “Feelers”. Every song deals with important messages, and often the listener must open their own heart to truly feel the emotional depth weaved deep into every single track.
If this is what Damyon has offered up for an EP, I look forward to hearing the full-length album.

If you are a fan of Neil Young, The Eels, Kings Of Leon, and just great songwriting, make sure not to pass up on listening to this EP.
