Many great musicians work primarily from behind the scenes, writing songs for other musicians, creating music that benefits those that are in need, and even teaching music theory to the next generation of hopefuls, and it is far too often that these busy musicians find themselves taking a long way around to getting to recording their own music, and thankfully Canadian singer-songwriter Georgie Lyons finally made the time to start recording her new music because she just released a crushingly beautiful song that is guaranteed to move some of those bleeding hearts out there.
Previously releasing her highly-acclaimed album ‘Since You Came Along’ back in 2018, Georgie Lyons has been keeping herself busy with working on the follow up to that ten-track emotionally charged album, and today is the day that she has released the first lead single, Run.
Run is a stunning track that was obviously crafted with a lot of professional care. It has the hallmarks of a song that easily could have been produced in the best studios found in Nashville, without actually being recorded in Nashville. Due to the travel restrictions that we have all had to live with due to the pandemic, Georgie started recording her latest song here in Calgary when there opened a window of opportunity to do so, and the results are more than radio-ready.
Listening to this track on repeat with high-end headphones really shows you how much care went into crafting this song. The vocals are smooth, the lyrics are powerful, Georgie’s guitar playing is on point, the harmonies are effective and the musicianship is nothing short of exceptional.
It is hard to place Georgie Lyons in a specific genre box as she clearly draws her inspiration from multiple sources of music. Run has hints of rock, adult contemporary, and country weaved within it, and arguably, this song could easily be played to multiple audiences that no doubt would each find something new within this track to connect with.
If Run is the first single to be released, then I think we can all agree that what Georgie Lyons is creating this year is well worth the wait.
