Man, oh man…I am all in when it comes to the infectious industrial sound of Houston, Texas collective, The Hunger, and their new shiny new single Vanishing Cream (Nouveau). I must be honest here, I had no idea what to expect, and judging them based on their looks I was expecting metal, not the intense and melodic synth-based sound that I discovered. Let’s just say that I am pleasantly surprised.
And why am I pleasantly surprised?
Well, let’s go back a bit to my youthful days where I blared Nine Inch Nails, Filter, and Stabbing Westward out my car speakers, because Vanishing Cream (Nouveau) by The Hunger taps directly into that vibe so much that it made me smile from ear to ear, and isn’t that what great music is supposed to be about?
The Hunger clearly knows how to create a song that travels and evolves into something so good that you must hit repeat while turning up the volume each consecutive time. Vanishing Cream (Nouveau) separates itself from the pack by wandering down some roads that lead us back to the days where musicians were focused more on how much they liked the music they made over trying to make music for the sake of becoming viral on TikTok.
The production value of this track is smooth as hell, (to be expected from the Wake Up Music Rocks! family) Just layers upon layers of sound all woven together in a darkly seductive way, exactly how industrial should be. I know that I am going to do a bit of a deep dive into the bands back catalog after this one, because this is a band that fully captured my attention with this new single, and who knows, they might be just what you are looking for as well to add to your playlist.
Well done, The Hunger, well done indeed!
